Earlier this month, it was realized that someone stole the source code 2006 version of Symantec security products.    Before you become alarmed, this version of Symantec is 5-6 years old.  If you have the latest versions of Symantec Antivirus/Endpoint protection suite then you should not worry.   Symantec makes major changes in their source code periodically, so the threat of malware finding a vulnerability in the software from the 2006 version is slim to none.

BUT - if you are still using Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 and Symantec Antivirus 10.2, then it is strongly recommended that you upgrade.  We can offer you the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 or our own Managed Endpoint Protection.  If you sign up for CBM Technology.NET's Managed Endpoint Protection, we can help you put your mind at ease by ensuring that your antivirus software is up-to-date.

If you are using Symantec PCAnywhere, Symantec has recommended that you follow their Security Recommendations or to disable PCAnywhere when not in use.  If you need assistance, contact us.

To determine what version of Symantec Endpoint Protection, follow these steps:

  1. Double click on the shield icon on the system tray in the lower-right corner of your screen to open Endpoint Protection
  2. In the Symantec Endpoint Protection main screen, click the button on the top-right that says Help and Support.
  3. From the drop down menu, choose About
  4. You can find the Version.

If you see that you are on Version 11.0, then it is highly recommended that you upgrade your Symantec Endpoint Protection.  If you are having problems with determining what version of Symantec Endpoint Protection you have, please feel free to contact us.
